"We spend January 1 walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched.  Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives... not looking for flaws, but for potential."  ~Ellen Goodman

It’s the day after Christmas, and it is tradition to begin thinking about resolutions for 2009.  I’ve never been one to make resolutions, but I admire those that do and then stick to them.  To me, making resolutions conjures images of failure…  I’m doomed to break them… doomed…

Some common New Year’s resolutions? Exercise, eat better, save more money, spend time with family… You've heard these before... And I like these, but they aren’t specific enough.  This year I’m gonna get focused.  I’ve got a plan…  I want resolutions that I can keep!

I hereby “officially” resolve to:

Learn my own cell phone number…

Assume history always repeatsuse my rear view mirror…

Provide a free pass for Katie: She can choose whatever she wants--including but not limited to meals, clothing, and bath time.

Pee before leaving the house.

Take responsibility for my messes—unless it’s someone else’s fault…

Protect me from myself—no more painting my toenails on the carpet…

Never operate a motor vehicle before 7:00 a.m.

Resist trimming my own bangs without a obtaining a beautician’s license first.

Lose the saying “I told you so dumb@$$!”

Procrastinate more when it comes to dropping daily entrecards…

Consolidate my email accounts—no one needs more than 7!

And lastly and most importantly… of course, remember to tell the ones that I care about that I love them…  (love you loyal readers!)

Have you begun to think about your New Year’s resolutions?  Any favorites you’d like to share?

Hilarious, as usual! ;) Great resolutions!

You know, I really do need to learn my own cell phone number, too...I've had it for 3 years, you'd think I'd remember what my number is without having to check it to see! :)

That's why I've listed it first--for the life of me, I can't remember it :) Have a great day! Best!

O.k. Nicole, how did you know that I can't remember my own mobile phone number? Even our home phone - we've only had that number 10 years!
Good resolutions, and very real ones too.

I love your resolutions. I might even be able to keep 1 or 2 of them.

Where can we get those beautician's licenses? That is more likely than me stopping trimming my own bangs.

I thought I was the only one who didn't know their own cell phone number. People always look at me like I am nuts when they ask me for my number and I tell them I have no idea. I have only had it for about 3 years. You would think by now I would have learned it, but no. Maybe I should make that a resolution.

Hi David,

Crazy, isn't it? I still have to look on my phone every time someone asks me for it... Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Anne,

I don't know why I can't learn... I think I've been trimming my own bangs for over 20 years--YIKES!

Hi Ken,

We can share :) I don't have an answer as to why it's so difficult--I can still remember our childhood phone number from when I was 7--my cell phone? NOPE! Hope you're feeling better!
