Colloquially known as the alligator pear, cultivated for nearly 10,000 years, and once reserved for royalty, avocados are nutritional delights. One of my favorite foods! And luckily, they are also very nutritious! Haas avocados are my favorite—they are creamier and have a better than average content of monounsaturated fat. And if you haven’t heard, eating a diet rich in monounsaturated fat can equate to less fat on your body.
What are some of the foods containing monounsaturated fats that are getting all the attention? Avocados for one, but you can also add olive oil, nuts, and even dark chocolate to get your daily dose. I’ve talked about almonds and dark chocolate on my blog, but another way to feel full and fight fat is to add avocados to your diet.
One way that I like to add this wonder food into my diet is by including it in my daily Juicy Alligator blended shake—it’s so nutritious!
The monounsaturated fats in avocados also may help lower cholesterol… They are a great source of potassium—which can help to regulate blood pressure. Just one cup of avocados has nearly a quarter of the daily recommended value of folate. Recent research has shown that foods rich in monounsaturated fatty acids offer significant protection against breast cancer! A recent study published in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry suggests that avocados may inhibit growth of prostate cancer cells…
Plenty of reasons to pick up some avocados the next time you're at the grocery store...
